Learn to Sing

Private singing lessons, combined with our performance programs are the best way to develop a great voice. Our vocal instructors first take an evaluation of the student's voice to know what they should be working on. They know the path is not the same for everyone. Our priority in our singing lessons is to develop good habits when doing vocal exercises. We think that a single lesson with the right vocal teacher can change the course of the student career.

General Questions

The characteristics of PY Rock Elizabeth singing lessons are the following:

  • Students apply music theory in songs that they like. This helps them learn faster.
  • Vocal instructors create different versions of the songs in order to match the students' pace. This allows the students to be able to sing songs, no matter the difficulty of the original version.
  • Our well-structured vocal lessons help the students master intonation in a dynamic and fun way.

We have students taking singing lessons as young as five years old. It is very important to be aware of the changes and the proper techniques in each stage in order to keep your child’s voice in great health and shape. These are the main factors to consider:

  • Motivation: If your child is the one expressing a strong interest in the guitar, it will help him/her overcome the difficulties that will arrive while taking guitar lessons with the instructor.
  • Focus: Younger children might love to sing, but a focused lesson that focuses solely on vocal technique can be challenging for kids. After a trial lesson we would be able to tell whether the student is ready for classes or not.
  • Attention span: Many young children struggle to pay attention for long periods of time, especially when it comes to new, challenging tasks. We recommend starting young students with shorter lessons (30-minutes) and increasing the lesson time as your child's skills and passion grow.

The students come to our singing lessons once a week for a 30-minute private session. We are open during the following days:

  • Mondays to Fridays, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
  • Saturdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • We host shows with 18 bands every three months.
  • Sundays: Exact availabilities vary by school location. Please ask your local PY Rock location for details.

SINGING LESSONS FOR BEGINNERS

ALL AGES

On the first singing lesson at PY Rock Elizabeth, you will chat with the vocal instructor so he/she can understand what you like or dislike about your voice, why you are taking singing lessons, and what's the plan for the first month. Breathing exercises, singing with power, and resonance are the main points you should expect to work on in your first vocal lessons.

INTERMEDIATE SINGING LESSONS

ALL AGES

To qualify for the intermediate singing lesson program, students need to be comfortable singing in tune, in time, use dynamics, and have two octaves of full voice range (according to our vocal instructors). At this point, our singing lessons focus on mastering falsetto, runs, vibrato, and deliver emotion in the performance. Paring private singing lessons with some of our performance programs is highly recommended.

ADVANCED SINGING LESSONS

ALL AGES

Once the students graduate from our beginner and intermediate vocal lessons, they qualify to start our advanced vocal lessons. In this program, they work with their vocal instructor in complex runs, big sustained high notes, high control of vibrato, and extreme control of dynamics. Our vocal instructors reported that most of the singer that take this program usually have difficulty getting through all songs in a gig, find themselves losing their voice or tiring out after just a few songs. Through our singing lessons program, vocal instructors can help students reach level they did not believe was possible.

PY Rock Elizabeth's approach to singing lessons for kids is; adding extras. Our vocal instructors always find supplementary options to add in for fun, such as learning songs they already know and give prizes to students for achieving goals. By adding extras to our vocal lessons program, kids learn faster while having a positive experience singing.

ALL LEVELS

Teens are sound creators; they love the idea of composing and exploring the combination of the sounds with their vocal chords. PY Rock Elizabeth highly trained vocal instructors approach the vocal lessons for teens in a way they can creatively explore their potential. They also take the stage and play at local music venues in our performance programs.

ALL LEVELS

PY Rock Elizabeth has a unique approach to singing lessons for adults. We understand adults have particular needs as learners which are different from kids and teens. Adults want to have a good understanding of the steps before doing it; for that reason, our instructors use techniques and strategies to help with their learning needs. Vocal instructors help the student have a clear picture of what they are going to be doing during the following months. Most of our adult's students are part of our performance programs and play live shows!
